Split airport - SPU, is located in Kaštel Štafilić, 24 km from the centre of Split and 5.5 km from the historic town of Trogir. Despite its small size, the airport it actually handles around 2 mil. passengers a year, of which the wast majority arrive in the summer season, especially in July and August.
Getting to Split from airport Split:
The only city which has a shuttle bus connection to the airport is Split, but despite this being a fairly cheap solution its drawback is that you get dropped off at the bus station in Split. This might not always be an optimal solution if you carry luggage and need to hassle getting from the bus station to your accommodation. Another alternative is to take a taxi from the airport or as we obviously will recommend, pre order a private transfer. A private transfer has the following advantages:

NOTE: The travel time from the airport to Split is under normal circumstances 25 minutes, but in July and August it can take quite a bit longer due to heavy traffic towards Split. If you travel from Split towards airport Split, you will have to leave Split 40 minutes to 1 hours before you have to check in. You can also ask the driver on the outgoing trip for advice regarding travelling back to the airport.
Getting to other coastal towns from Split airport
If you travel from the airport to destinations like Omis, Brela, Baska Voda, Dubrovnik, Zadar, Sibenik or any other destination along the Dalmatian coast, you basically can do so by bus, but it will require you change a bus at Split or Trogir bus station and you will have to hassle getting from the bus station to your accommodation. Getting from Split airport to Marinas in Croatia

Getting to Island Hvar and other islands from Split airport
If you travel to island Hvar, island Brac, island Solta or any other of the Dalmatian islands, you have the option to travel first to Split and then continue from there by car ferry or catamaran. The travel time varies depending on which island and city on the island you are going to e.g from Split airport to Hvar town will in best case (if your catamaran departure time matches) take you 3 hours, but as the catamaran departures to town Hvar are few, it will in most cases take you 5 hours or more to get from airport Split to Hvar town.
